Patience

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
(Proverbs 13:12)
Despair, hopelessness, and sadness come when we cannot see any way of changing our situation. This seems to me to be a time when we are, simply stated, in the process of becoming. Sometimes it looks like situations are just not going to change and no matter what we do or think, everything stays the same. It makes me think of the story of a father who wanted to give his son a great birthday present. He would listen to what his son would talk about and one day, he discovered that what he really wanted was a bicycle. So the dad asked what kind it would be and what color it should be and etc.. The boys birthday was a way off yet but the dad searched around and found a bicycle that exactly fit the sons description and purchased it. He took it home while the son was in school and hid it in the garage behind some other stuff so that the boy would not accidentally stumble upon it. The boy kept dreaming of of owning this bicycle but it just never seemed to be a possibility to have. What he did not know was that it was already his and that it was waiting for the appropriate time to be a reality in his life. You can now sense the joy in this boys heart and life when it was presented to him on his birthday.
There are times when we have to wait on God’s timing as we are “in the process”. Patience is a quality that can keep us from becoming depressed.
