Genesis 22:2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
Genesis 22:6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together.
I think that everyone is aware that Abraham had two sons, Ismael, his first born through Hagar, who was his wife’s servant. The second was Isaac, whom God had promised to Abraham, through Sarai his wife who was around seventy-five years of age. Therefore, Isaac was a son of promise but also his only begotten son through his wife.
Then we have the picture of the only begotten son carrying the wood on his own shoulders upon which he would be laid as a sacrifice. And where did this all take place but on Mount Moriah where some three thousand years later, God’s only begotten would carry a wooden cross on His shoulders upon which He would be sacrificed for the sins of the world, fulfilling this prophetic picture.
I am certain that Yeshua told this to His disciples as they walked along that road to Emmaus.
