“No Room”

Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

 When a person lives in Israel, especial;;y in Jerusalem, one seems to see the word of God from a whole different perspective. I, as a Gentile, have lived in Jerusalem for 30 years and I have seen a lot, and learned a lot and understand a lot of the culture and celebrations here. There are specific holy days (holidays) that are very special to the Jewish people and that this God of the bible has mandated that should be attended. There is Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles. In Hebrew, they are, Pesach, Shavuot, and Succoth. These three times a year, one will find most hotels full but especially in the season of Succoth, Tabernacles, it will be very hard to find a room anywhere. Thus, when I look at this simple statement in Luke of Yeshua being born in Bethlehem in a stable rather than in an Inn, because there was no room, it immediately tells me it was because of the most holy of days in Jerusalem. And again, why would Joseph have traveled on foot and donkey all the way from Nazareth to Bethlehem just to register for the census if he didn’t already need to be in Jerusalem according to God’s word? Bethlehem is only about two and a half miles or 4 Kilometers from Jerusalem. And again why the Inn would be fully occupied if not for all the visitors for the feast? This tiny statement alone leads me to believe that Yeshua was born during one of the high Holy days prescribed especially Succoth.

This thought has been on my mind for the past week and I just had to share it.
