“I Never Knew You”

know-me

Matthew 25:11-13 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

That little phrase, “I do not know you” in this story of the ten virgins does not say, “Sorry you are too late”, it says “I do not know you”. I thought on this for most of the day and believe, He wants a personal relationship with us, He wants to hear our story personally, not second hand. It does not matter about all the good works one has done, it matters if we have a relationship with Him. I can learn all about, say, Mr. Greenfeld, tell people how great a writer he is and get people to read his books and know all the characters he ever wrote about but do you think he will let me into his house unless we have some sort of relationship together? No. That is exactly what this scripture is telling me, I need to have a two way relationship with this loving God or He will not know who I am. I must spend time in the Garden with Him, talking to Him, being thankful for all He has done in my life. How He has carried me through so many deep waters. But …. At the same time, I must confess who I am and all that my life has produced or not. I must let Him know how much I want to be with Him so He can learn firsthand how much I appreciate all that He has accomplished in my life. We need to get to know each other, spend time together, being in relationship. Otherwise, He will have to say, ‘I do not know you.’

I can know the Bible from cover to cover and be able to preach all that it has to say about His Kingdom; I may have said the sinners prayer of belief and go on about my business or made a profession of being ‘born again’ but, do I know Him and most of all, does He know me? Just some things to think about if we think we can get into His Kingdom. When that day arrives to leave this earth suit behind, will He “know” me?
