Isaiah 6:9-10 (Youngs Literal Translation) 9 And He saith, `Go, and thou hast said to this people, Hear ye — to hear, and ye do not understand, And see ye — to see, and ye do not know. 10 Declare fat the heart of this people, And its ears declare heavy, And its eyes declare dazzled, Lest it see with its eyes, And with its ears hear, and its heart consider, And it hath turned back, and hath health.’
Isaiah 6:9-10 (KJ21) 9 And He said, “Go, and tell this people: “‘Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.’ 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert and be healed.”
I read a comment yesterday from a Jewish person with some authority in dealing with believers in Yeshua. His statement was that most Jewish people will look at you funny if you want to speak about something from the “new covenant”. This statement immediately went to my heart as if I had been stabbed. However, my very first reading in my daily reading guide this morning was in the “old covenant” Job 38 which basically starts off with God, Elohim, speaking with Job with this statement: vs2“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? …..” I then realized that it is the God of Creation who has blinded their eyes that they cannot see.
I live in Jerusalem, Israel and I see many Orthodox in the streets and on the buses and I pray for their eyes to be opened. However, this morning, I had to take a closer look at ‘why’ they are so blinded. I realized almost instantly that their training from childhood is in yeshiva school where they are taught what to believe from a lot of other sources other than the bible as well as the bible. BUT, when bible is taught, the understanding of what they are reading comes from some other Rabbi’s understanding rather than taking the bible in its entirety, old and new covenant, to understand what each story is really saying. Jeremiah 31:31 “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— So, when this New Covenant was made with the house of Israel and all the Jewish people, they have refused to acknowledge it to their own hurt. But, the Gentiles have openly looked into it and can plainly see where the Old Covenant stories and prophecies are and have been fulfilled and how there is a perfect picture of the One they are waiting for. I have heard them say for example that Isaiah 53 is a leprous chapter and have also heard that it is talking about Israel and not their awaited Messiah. How could it be that the Messiah would allow Himself to be treated so badly, it must be saying something else and so the new understanding from the Rabbi’s teaching goes on. Psalm 22 is a perfect picture again of not Israel but their Messiah. And then the story of Joseph who was cast out and thrown away from envy who ended up being the salvation once revealed to them. All these instances make such a picture of the One they are waiting for but for the most part, the Jewish people are waiting for their Messiah to come in a way that they can accept and the way the Rabbi’s think He will come. This God of Creation is an awesome God who is a God of total love for His people and has done everything possible to bring them Home to Himself.
The Jewish people are looking for a sign and the days of signs and wonders are fast coming upon us. Eyes and hearts are being opened throughout this land and I see more Jewish Believers coming to faith in Yeshua. It is mostly the staunch Orthodox who persists in refusing the New Covenant which God has ordained.
I am afraid this a bit longer than my usual “word for the day” but my heart was just so burdened today for the Jewish people and their unwillingness to open their eyes.
